MPA4Change consortium meet in Cyprus

Moving on monitoring protocols and upcoming tasks to enhance MPA capacity to face climate change

04/06/2024 -

From Monday 27th to Friday 31st May, the MPA4Change project consortium met in Cyprus. During this time, training sessions were organised, when stakeholders and trainers from the different toolkits had the opportunity to explore the beautiful waters off the coast of Pernera. During the training sessions, stakeholders and trainers of the individual toolkits explored the beautiful waters off the coast of Pernera. In both theoretical and practical sessions, they learned about various monitoring protocols: Mass Mortality, Temperature Monitoring, Fish Visual Census, Sea Urchins, and LEK 2 and 3.

An engaging meeting with the local MPA managers also occurred, providing an opportunity for the managers of the MPAs of Brijuni and Portofino to showcase their impressive work. They demonstrated how they implement the toolkits and discussed critical topics such as stakeholder engagement and participation.

In the final days, the steering committee happened, bringing together representatives of the project partners to network, define ideas and objectives, and establish the project timeline and upcoming tasks.

The meetings were intense but incredibly beneficial for advancing our work.
