FOL Participates in the 4th Assembly of Marine Sciences of Galicia

Haritz Ayarza presented the late highlights on the climate vulnerability assessment of Galician artisanal fisheries

The 4th General Assembly of the Marine Sciences Program of Galicia was held on the 22 of may in the City of Culture in Santiago de Compostela where more than 170 researchers from 14 institutions presented the progress of the project and the results and knowledge generated.

The intense participatory meeting was structured around three thematic sections and five panels: (1) scientific knowledge for the sustainable management of the marine environment, social transformation and resilience in the coastal areas; (2) research and innovation for sustainable and intelligent fisheries management and aquaculture production, and (3) the integrated strategy for marine observation and monitoring in Galicia. The event featured 18 presentations and 19 brief talks by young researchers from the universities of Vigo, Santiago and A Coruña, MeteoGalicia, IEO-CSIC of A Coruña and Vigo, IIM-CSIC, Intecmar, Cetmar and Cesga.

From the Future Oceans Lab group at the University of Vigo, Haritz Ayarza Molinero presented advances in case study 3 on the vulnerability of the coast to climate change and the climate risk analysis of fishing groups in Galicia, within work package PT10.

The Assembly served as a platform to share the latest scientific findings and foster debate around the protection of marine ecosystem in Galicia and its ecosystem services.
