The fourth ICES PICES ECS conference was held last 18th – 21st July 2022 in St. John’s, Canada and aimed at improving the involvement of young scientists in international scientific investigations, management, and stewardship of the marine environment, in the  International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) and the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES).

FOL’s PhD student Xochitl Elías gave an oral presentation where she showed the results of her systematic literature review where she pointed out the main research gaps of the current small-scale fisheries climate change adaptation literature. She also supported Francesca Barazzetta’s poster that presented the final results of the climate change vulnerability assessment of seven marine protected areas in the Mediterranean Sea within the framework of MPA-Engage project.

The conference was a great opportunity to meet inspiring young marine scientists from different continents and enhance their role in developing the “Ocean sciences for the future we want”  under the umbrella of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030.
