Frida joins FOL for her internship within IMBRSea

She will work with Xochitl Elías and Juan Bueno on adaptation of small-scale fisheries to climate change

Frida Sánchez is join us from the Marche Polytechnic University in Italy to do her internship as part of her graduate studies in the International Master’s in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea) During her bachelor’s degree in Mexico she studied the corallivore behaviour of the Crown-of-thorns starfish and its predation effect in the coral communities of the Gulf of California. As a scientific diver, she has been involved with multidisciplinary research groups to monitor the biodiversity of fish and invertebrates to document the ecosystem changes over time.

For the next month, she will collaborate with Xochitl Elías Ilosvay and the team members of the Future Oceans Lab on the CLOCK project about the adaptation of small-scale fisheries to climate change. The internship aims to study the changes in mean temperature catch (MTC) to evaluate the effect of sea warming on the marine ecosystems of Nayarit which has been identified as a vulnerable hotspot to the climate change effects. Her research will contribute to understanding the adaptation of the socio-ecological systems to anticipate the long-term sustainability of the resources and livelihoods.
