Congratulations to Dr. Iratxe Rubio
PhD candidate Iratxe Rubio from FOL, defended her dissertation last Friday, September 24. The defense was held online with the following committee members: Dr. Amaia Albizua from the University of the Basque Country, Dr. Arantza Murillas from AZTI and Dr. Chris Free from the University of California. The thesis was supervised by Dr. Elena Ojea and is titled “Interdisciplinary insights into industrial fisheries’ adaptation to climate change”. It aims to investigate whether large-scale fisheries are already responding to climate change impacts and explore their adaptation responses in order to propose informed adaptation.
As future steps, Iratxe has co-founded the Maireira Bizi company, born in 2021 to support fisher guilds, enterprises, and the administration in their path to sustainable fisheries. Besides, Mareira Bizi offers services to research groups in order to develop research, transfer results to the private sector and disseminate scientific findings related to the marine sector.
Iratxe obtained the maximum grade and the CUM LAUDE distinction, congratulations Dr. Rubio!
