FOL welcomes Lara Brodie for her research stay

Lara will conduct her Master thesis within IMBRSea program led by Smit and Elena

22/01/2021 -

Lara Brodie joins the Future Oceans Lab for a Masters Dissertation. Lara will work with Smit and Elena and will be focused on assessing the impacts of climate change on food security vulnerability within a local scale coastal African context. Lara is from Cape Town, South Africa, and is currently completing her Master’s degree through IMBRSea (International Master of Science in Marine Biological Resources). She currently holds a Bachelor of Science as well as an Honours degree in Biodiversity and Ecology from Stellenbosch University in South Africa (2018). Her previous research investigated the impacts of climate change on an iconic South African tree species using species distribution models.

As Africa is home for Lara and where food security vulnerability is amongst the highest in the world – this type of work which integrates both biological and social sciences is of particular interest to her. Her passion and aspirations for the future lie in creating a future where sustainable use of our oceans can be a benefit to all.  Lara has worked in some diving and conservation programs in Mozambique as well as the Bahamas.

We are pleased to work with her. Welcome and good luck Lara!
