Second ICYMARE forum edition

After the successful session held on the past 26^th and 27^th of August in the first online edition of the ICYMARE conference, Xochitl and the Ph.D. student Michael Kriegl are hosting the second online forum edition focused on social-ecological systems and interdisciplinarity on January 13^th at 10 am CET.

In the forum, five highly talented Early Career Researchers (ECRs) (based in Belgium, Germany, and New Zealand) will be presenting their experience using the social-ecological approach when investigating coastal systems. Following the presentations, both hosts aim to discuss the benefits and challenges of interdisciplinary research through a panel discussion including the presenters and two more invited ‘senior’ scientists. Sustainability science and practices are increasingly applying a social-ecological lens to tackle the conservation and development challenges of the 21^st century and as a novel scientific discipline, social-ecological research is prominently shaped and promoted by a generation of ECRs. Therefore, it is of high importance to discuss the limits and struggles of interdisciplinarity when aiming at conducting policy-relevant research.
