“Mediterranean MPAs facing Climate Change” a second MPA-ENGAGE training
On the last week of July, from the 27th to the 30th, Francesca Barazzetta travelled to Sardinia, (Italy), to join the rest of the MPA-Engage team to provide a second training on the Vulnerability Assessment to some of the MPAs involved in the project. The meeting hosted by the MPA of Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo focused on the activities of Citizen Science and on the socio-ecological vulnerability assessments. The event brought together over 20 representatives of the Diving industry, researchers and Mediterranean MPAs.
The training included the implementation of common monitoring protocols for the citizen science part and the implementation of the data collection for the vulnerability assessment. Specifically, the vulnerability assessment training was divided in two afternoons and it was joined physically by the MPAs of Tavolara, Brijuni and Portofino while the MPAs of Cap de Creus, Baix Emporda’ and Calanques National park attended online. The lectures focused on the application of questionnaires and the implementation of the data collection and they had the scope to provide and explain to the managers the material needed to gather the data to assess the vulnerability of their Marine Protected Areas.
Together continue working in developing a climate change adaptation and mitigation action plan for Mediterranean MPAs.
