Promoting sustainability and the leadership role of women in science
Homeward Bound is a ground-breaking initiative focused on providing women with the tools they need to effectively network, lead and engage their communities in the fight against climate change. The project aims to create a network of 1,000 women scientists in 10 years who will work together to have a positive influence in the decision making for our planet. It started in 2016 and so far, 331 women from 40 nationalities and 25 different scientific fields have joined the network.
FOL member Alba Aguion is one of the 75 women selected for the 2020 cohort (Team HB5). Starting November 2019, Alba along with the rest of the researchers will receive a one year training on leadership, communication, international relationships and team management. The experience will conclude with a 3- week expedition to Antarctica to learn about the latest research on climate change and attract media attention to the cause. As a result of the journey, participants will be better equiped and supported to lead for the greater good.
You can read more about the project on Alba´s personal website. The program is partially founded, so Alba is currently raising funds to cover the whole costs of the program. If you want to support her participation a crowdfunding campaign is available!
