26/06/2018 -

Last week Vigo became the world capital of Marine Science as all oceanographers and marine scientist gathered in the city for the 6th International Symposium on Marine Science. Elena Fontán attended and represented FOL, presenting the new Fisheries Resilience Index and the first results of the CLOCK project. This Fisheries Resilience Index is a novel approach to quantifying the resilience level of the countries to climate change and shifting stocks, that Elena has developed with Elena Ojea. Elena’s talk closed the conference’s session on climate change, management of resources and governance of the oceans.

The Symposium was held in the auditorium of the Sea of Vigo, next to the Ria de Vigo and the Port of Vigo. It was held in parallel with the Meeting of Spanish and Portuguese Physical Oceanographers (EOF), the Seminar of Iberian Chemical Oceanographers (SIQUIMAR), the Iberian Meeting on Toxic Algae and Biotoxins (REDIBAL), and the International Science Conference of the Campus do Mar (ISC CdM). Additionally, it included a special event to promote the candidacy of our nearby Cies Islands as a World Heritage Site.
