Climate Change in an Era of Uncertainty

The Basque Center for Climate Change (BC3) in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) has organized this year the 8th edition of the BC3-UPV/EHU Summer School on climate change: “Climate Change in an Era of Uncertainty”. This-three day course was held in Donostia-San Sebastian from the 5th to the 7th of July.

The summer school offered an up-to-date picture of the ongoing trends in climate change research covering current key issues such as artic sea ice, ocean circulation, see level rise, climate engineering, mitigation options, climate policy and tools for speeding up the transition to a low carbon future.

Paris after United States  stepping off was one of the hot topics discussed. Experts do not expect dramatic effects by the US exit  since renewable energies revolution has already started. However, this decision does not help in order to advance towards a reduction in global emissions. Participants aggreed that there is a need to “surf this wave” without forgetting that both mitigation and adaptation are necessary to tackle climate change.
