KLIMAGUNE Workshop 2017 on climate change and public engagement
The Klimagune Workshop 2017, held on May 31st in Bilbao, was organized by the Basque Centre of Climate Change (BC3) as part of its initiatives of sharing and spreading knowledge on climate change. This seventh edition of Klimagune was a meeting forum that gathered different profiles related to climate change, including scientists, managers at different scales, private companies, communication professionals, non-governmental organizations and citizens in general.
The event consisted on various activities, i.e. a plenary session, two round-table discussions and two participatory working sessions, that pursued stimulating dialogue between sectors related to climate change and the creation of synergies and collaboration among participants. The focus of this KLIMAGUNE edition was on public engagement and social activation to face climate change, which is urgent after COP21 and the Paris Agreement.
Various perceptions of climate change were discussed and it was agreed that institutions, production structures and both private and public social actors need to play an active and coordinated role in tackling this issue. Thus, a common objective on promoting mitigation and adaptation to climate change including public engagement is crucial.
